TERBERG ROS ROCA is the Spanish division of ROYAL TERBERG GROUP, a multinational leader in the supply and rental of products and services for garbage collection.
Our Industrial Design Studio was contacted to advice on the industrialization of a line of Bins for the containment of municipal solid Garbage, featuring considerable inefficiencies at that time.
In close collaboration with the Company and with a staff of designers appointed by them, we have developed a completely new range of products: the selection of the technology used (injection moulding instead of rotational moulding), construction materials (polyethylene) and emptying method (side loading), made this product reaching an outstanding level of optimization on the production and operational side.
ROTATIONAL MOULDING (Before) | INJECTION MOULDING (After) | |
Moulding time |
2 hrs | 12 mins |
Assembling time |
1 hrs | 14 mins |
The moulding time was reduced by 90%, and the assembly time by about 75%, for an overall reduction in production times of more than 85%.
The outstanding reduction of production time allowed ROS ROCA to quickly build about 100,000 new bins, thus allowing them to meet a rental request of about 80,000 units from the Spanish Public Administration.
Thanks to above, it was possible to quickly amortize the initial investment of about 3 million Euros.
By the contribution of our Industrial Design Studio, the optimization also involved transport cost: in fact, we designed the individual components so that they could be transported to their destination disassembled and stacked, allowing the on-site assembly at the final positioning on the street.
The selection of Polyethylene as construction material makes this product eco-friendly: this material is completely recyclable, and can be disposed of and reused up to 3 times. The metallic mechanical parts can be completely dismantled to be disposed separately.
The combined use of polyethylene and metal increases the structural strength of the object. Some measures (such as the double-block support for the bin lid) minimize the risk of accidental breakage: this allows to prolong the lifecycle of the product, with positive effects on operating cost and Environmental Sustainability.
ROS ROCA garbage bins have been designed and developed to grant the full accessibility: in compliance with the reference UNI Standard, they consist of a pedal that can be easily opened in 5 positions.
Urban decor and traffic safety have also been taken into consideration: our Industrial Design Studio developed an alignment system keeping the bins perfectly in place even after automatic unloading. This also makes it safer for people with disabilities to cross the road.
TERBERG ROS ROCA distributes this line of urban bins in Europe, Africa and South America, in two available capacities (1400 and 3200 litres).
We are proud to include in our collaborations a leading Company as TERBERG ROS ROCA: we are sure “by numbers” of having contributed to the consolidation of its position on the market, while fully respecting the Environment and the Social Role of the Company.
